Introduction:
This infographic, compares varying categories from the three Olympic games that London will have hosted after this years 2012 Olympics.
Information: ★★★★★
The Olympics are just cool and learning more about them is rarely a waste of time. Here’s the only other thing in the world (aside from the World Cup) where all nations ignore their past difference or political disagreements and join together for a common cause. What’s not to like about that? This infographic, however, doesn’t just give us random facts and comparisons, but incorporates social context into its information, such as the increase in female athletes, to give it a broader and much deeper meaning. Plus, learning about the odd ways that London has gained the Olympic games each time is also a portal into man’s history. Simply put, fascinating stuff.
Design: ★★★★
The overall design facilitates the understanding of the information being presented. Although the info segments aren’t necessarily related to one another, the design gives the entire infographic a harmonious flow. The color design, though simple, helps facilitate the understand of the information and is aesthetically functional. It would have been nice to see maybe a little less of the 2-D graphics, but that’s getting a bit nit-picky.
Creativity: ★★★★
There’s nothing wrong with the creativity here, but you get the feeling that they could have done more. They aren’t simply talking about people jumping over hurdles or swimming in a pool. They’ve decided to show the broader social and cultural perspectives of the three Olympics and thus could’ve brought a bit more life to the infographic with a touch more creativity. The piece is relatively static.
Conclusion:
This infographic successfully achieves its intent of comparing and demonstrating some of the major differences between the three Olympics that London will have hosted.
